The Metro XD is Legacy's most compact powered subwoofer, built around a 16-inch cube form factor. A 12-inch spun aluminum active driver with 480-ounce motor structure is paired with a 15-inch down-firing mass-loaded passive radiator for pneumatic bass coupling. The result is deep bass extension to 20Hz with maximum SPL of 118 dB at 1 meter, all from a subwoofer that fits almost anywhere.

The Legacy Audio Metro XD at $3,000 answers a common question: how do you get Legacy-quality bass in a room where a Foundation or Goliath XD simply won't fit? The answer is a 16-inch cube containing a 12-inch active driver and a 15-inch down-firing passive radiator that together produce bass response down to 20Hz with 118 dB of output capability.
The Metro XD belongs to Legacy's Lifestyle Collection, a series designed for rooms where performance and practicality must coexist. Living rooms with limited floor space, home offices, bedroom systems, and apartments where a large subwoofer would be physically or aesthetically impractical. These are the spaces where the Metro XD excels.
The Metro XD's 12-inch spun aluminum active driver uses the same 480-ounce magnet motor found in Legacy's larger subwoofers. This heavy-duty motor provides the control needed for clean, distortion-free bass at high output levels. The 15-inch mass-loaded passive radiator fires downward from the base of the cabinet, coupling with the floor for extended bass response without the port noise that vented designs can produce.
The cube format isn't just compact; it's acoustically advantageous. Equal-dimension cabinets have simpler internal resonance patterns than rectangular enclosures, making them easier to brace and damp effectively. The Metro XD's cabinet uses the same heavy-duty construction techniques as Legacy's larger subwoofers, scaled to the smaller format.
Inputs include LFE for home theater processors, left/right RCA for stereo preamp outputs, and balanced XLR for professional or high-end home audio applications. The variable crossover range of 40-150Hz provides integration flexibility with any main speaker, and the phase control ensures proper time alignment between the Metro XD and your main channels.
At 68 pounds, the Metro XD is manageable by one person. It can be tucked beside a couch, slipped next to an equipment rack, or placed in a corner where its boundary reinforcement works with the room rather than against it. For rooms where a subwoofer needs to be heard and not seen, the Metro XD's compact dimensions make concealment practical.
For listeners who already own Legacy speakers, particularly the passive models like the Signature SE, Studio HD, or Classic HD, the Metro XD extends the system's bass response without dominating the room. Paired with a pair of Signature SEs, the Metro XD adds a full octave of bass extension below what the speakers can do on their own, transforming a very good system into a great one.
The Metro XD also excels in desktop and nearfield audio setups, where traditional subwoofers are too large for the room proportions. Paired with Studio HD monitors on a desk, the Metro XD creates a compact but genuinely full-range system for music production, critical listening, or simply enjoying music at your workstation.
