The Wavelet II is the brain of any Legacy Audio system. It functions simultaneously as a high-end digital-to-analog converter, preamplifier, and up to 8-channel digital crossover with room acoustic correction. 64-bit internal processing exceeds the 32-bit capability of the Wavelaunch. Room correction analyzes the listening environment via a precision-calibrated measurement microphone and applies equalization and time correction. The app-based control interface allows real-time adjustment from a smartphone or computer. Integrated into the Valor System cabinet.

The Legacy Audio Wavelet II is not a typical preamplifier. At $8,000, it's a 64-bit digital signal processor, DAC, preamplifier, and room correction engine housed in a single chassis. It replaces the traditional stack of preamp, DAC, and digital crossover with one integrated device that serves as the command center for Legacy's powered loudspeaker systems, and it can elevate any high-end system it's connected to.
The Wavelet II ships as the included processor with the $100,000 Valor System, but it's also available as a standalone purchase for owners of other Legacy powered speakers like the Aeris XD, Focus XD, and Signature XD. For those systems, it replaces the internal DSP crossover with a far more sophisticated external processor that brings Valor-level room correction and signal management to speakers at every price point in Legacy's powered lineup.
Most digital audio processors operate at 24 or 32 bits internally. The Wavelet II processes at 64-bit floating-point precision, which means it has essentially unlimited dynamic range for internal calculations. When the processor applies room correction filters, adjusts crossover slopes, and manages volume control, it does so with mathematical precision that preserves every nuance of the original signal.
This matters because digital signal processing is cumulative. Every filter, every adjustment, every volume change introduces rounding errors in lower-precision systems. At 64 bits, those errors are so far below the noise floor that they're inaudible. The signal that reaches your amplifiers and speakers is as clean as the source material allows.
The Wavelet II supports PCM audio up to 24-bit/192kHz and includes a high-performance DAC section. Connect your digital sources (streamer, CD transport, computer) via USB, coaxial, or optical inputs, and the Wavelet handles digital-to-analog conversion alongside its DSP duties. For analog sources like turntables, dedicated analog inputs bypass the ADC/DAC chain entirely.
Room correction is a feature that many audio products claim and few execute well. The Wavelet II's Bohmer room correction system uses a calibration microphone and multiple measurement positions to build a detailed acoustic model of your listening room. It identifies room modes, standing waves, early reflections, and frequency response anomalies, then applies correction filters that address each problem individually.
The key difference between the Wavelet II's approach and simpler room correction systems is precision. Rather than applying broad equalization curves that can introduce their own artifacts, the Bohmer system targets specific acoustic problems at specific frequencies with narrowband filters. The result is a correction that makes the room acoustically transparent without making the music sound processed or artificial.
Dave calibrates the Wavelet II during installation using Legacy's measurement protocol. The process takes about 30 minutes and involves placing the measurement microphone at multiple listening positions. The result is stored in the Wavelet's memory and can be recalled instantly. If you rearrange your room or add acoustic treatment, Dave can recalibrate to match the new acoustic environment.
The Wavelet II includes a dedicated control app that runs on iOS and Android devices. The app provides source selection, volume control, bass management, and access to the crossover settings. For most daily listening, it replaces a traditional remote control with a more intuitive touch interface.
For advanced users, the app exposes the Wavelet's crossover parameters (slopes, frequencies, levels, and delay settings for each driver section). This level of control is typically reserved for professional studio equipment. In a home environment, it means Dave can fine-tune the system's behavior to match your preferences with a precision that fixed hardware crossovers cannot match.
The Wavelet II also serves as a digital hub. Its eight-channel output section can drive multiple amplifier channels for active crossover configurations, making it the natural center of any Legacy powered system. For home theater applications, it integrates with surround processors via its multichannel analog inputs.
